Guidelines
Sadly, Midgard isn't allowed to run on just a "use common sense" due to many people not having any. This document is not made to be weaponized. If there's a problem, you go to ME or a moderator of that service (if relevant) instead of starting a flamewar in the community over it. Starting shit outside of admin channels WILL be assumed to be bad faith and treated as such. Of course, alerting admins at the time of something happening where it's happening is OK (e.g. an IRC channel), but do not start fights where nothing is currently happening.
General Community Guidelines
Applies globally, don't use my services for hate speech, don't spam, don't post abuse material, don't get me arrested, don't be a dick, don't make me make more rules, you get the idea.
Website Guidelines
The rest of this section uses RFC2119 keywords. It will also use "sites" in reference only to user-generated websites hosted with us. These rules only apply to user-generated websites.
- Bloat
-
Sites SHOULD NOT require JavaScript to be functional. Sites also SHOULD NOT make use of JavaScript frameworks or
anything like them. This is to minimize web bloat and keep sites fast for the client. For the same reason, don't
use excessive amounts of CSS and avoid external imports/libraries. It's perfectly fine to style your site to
your liking, but don't put an absurd amount of unneeded CSS either.
This is not a place for web apps. - Compatibility
- Sites SHOULD be using valid XML syntax, preferably using XHTML 1.1. Sites MAY use HTML5 extensions such as <audio>, <video>, <section>, <details>, and so on but still SHOULD be valid XML and HTML. You SHOULD also aim to have your site at least be usable and readable in text-only browsers such as Links and w3m. If you don't understand what any of this means, don't hesitate to ask. I'm always happy to help if you're happy to cooperate.
- Content
- Pretty much the same as the general community guidelines. Sites MUST NOT use my service to sell drugs, dump porn, or incite violence. Also worth noting that commercial/for-profit sites are banned. This is purely because I do not have the resources to be scam-checking everything and do not want to play favorites.
